facet fixation

Facet Fixation

The facet joints are most commonly affected by osteoarthritis (wear and tear arthritis). Facet joint pain can be felt over the affected joint but can also be referred to the shoulder girdle, shoulder blade, or arm in the case of the neck, or into the bony pelvis, hip, or thigh in the case of the low back.

The Facet Fixation procedure utilizes specialized bolts or screws that are inserted through the facet joints of two or more vertebrae, facet fixation locks the vertebrae together and stabilizes the damaged spine.  Most Facet Fixation Systems use a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a small incision that can result in minimal tissue and muscle damage, less blood loss, higher rate of success, and improved patient recovery time.
